WHAT IS SPORTS PERFORMANCE TRAINING?

Sports performance training is designed to prepare an athlete for optimum performance in a specific sport. While practicing skills with a team or individual coach is a necessity, to get to the next level, a young athlete needs to learn how to utilize his or her body to its full potential. The purpose is to work on those things that will translate into improved performance for that sport. For example, a swimmer might perform movements that strengthen their shoulder’s muscular endurance, whereas a soccer player might utilize more lower-body exercises. Joining a commercial gym or working out in your high school weight room is a great way to improve general fitness—no question. But using the specialized equipment available at Evolution is second to none.

WHY DO I NEED SPORTS PERFORMANCE TRAINING?

In this world of competitive everything, how does a young athlete become ELITE? Young athletes are being exposed to high levels of competition earlier and earlier, requiring efficient abilities to sprint, jump, cut, change direction, throw, rapidly accelerate and decelerate. It’s crucial to have the proper training in order to:

  • reduce the risk of injury

  • gain a competitive edge

  • improve an athlete’s potential ability to master the specific skills required by their sport of choice

  • equip athletes to create more opportunities for advancement

  • improve self confidence to use on the field/court and in life.

So, how do you leverage your body to maximize power? How can you make sure you left it all on the field? With Evolution’s hands-on approach, these are questions that athletes will feel and be able to translate on their own.

HOW IS SPORTS PERFORMANCE TRAINING DIFFERENT FROM PERSONAL TRAINING?

Sports performance training and personal training should not be confused with one another. Personal trainers prepare an exercise routine for their client’s general fitness. With sports performance, the training is engineered for the specific sport a trainee takes part in. Take a football player, for example. In sports performance training, his exercise regime will mirror the movements required in the field and may differ from the exercises used to develop a swimmer. Our trainers will concentrate on the athlete’s flexibility, agility, speed, strength, injury prevention practices, reaction time, and explosive force and help the athlete translate these skill-related fitness components to the game, match, or meet.
